LIXIL Co., Ltd. (“LIXIL”), together with Kashima Antlers FC Co., Ltd. (“Kashima Antlers”), launched an innovative Japanese restroom concept space at the Kashima Soccer Stadium, named “REST and,” on Friday, August 23, 2019, renewing the ladies’ facility in preparation for 2020.

Kashima Antlers, the designated manager of Kashima Soccer Stadium, is enhancing its efforts to provide Japanese-standard hospitality, to expand the population of spectators enjoying sports at the stadium. As a part of the initiative, it has engaged the expertise of LIXIL, an official sponsor of Kashima Antlers, to refurbish one of the ladies’ restrooms in the stadium to improve hospitality towards female guests.
The concept of “REST and” is that “the restroom is a space to refresh, a necessity when watching soccer.” It proposes a new style of facility suitable for the stadium, adding further value to the conventional restroom.
Rearranging the intertwining movement flow and enhancing the vanity area with an additional section of mirrors, the restroom has evolved from a mere functional necessity to a place where ladies can go to refresh. The doors and the interior of the toilet cubicles feature Antlers’ colors, red and navy, making it visually easier to determine which ones are occupied. Also, a “Baby Room,” which can be used regardless of gender, is set up as an independent area, ensuring friendliness to families with small children. Furthermore, for the first time in the history of Japan’s soccer stadiums, the toilets feature INAX’s AQUA CERAMIC, which retains its shine for 100 years with simple cleaning, ensuring continued cleanliness.
LIXIL also proposes a new signage plan for the stadium by placing a graphic design that maximizes behavioral psychology. The design allows visitors to naturally find the end of the half-time toilet queue at each game, eliminating the psychological stress associated with movement flow confusions.
LIXIL will continue to contribute to people’s good living through its pursuit of comfortable restroom spaces as well as provide support towards sports that excite and inspire people in their daily lives.

Rearranging the intertwining movement flow and enhancing the vanity area with an additional section of mirrors, the restroom has evolved from a mere functional necessity to a place where ladies can go to refresh. With a TV monitor placed in the waiting area, visitors can now check the status of the game while queuing up. Furthermore, a “Baby Room” is set up as an independent area, so that it can be used regardless of gender.
The toilet cubicles feature Antlers’ red and navy color scheme, presenting an extraordinary experience. The distinctive colors make it visually easier to determine which cubicles are occupied just by keeping the doors open or closed, which was previously more difficult. Also, each cubicle has a different design to stimulate visitors to want to try various cubicles.
The tiled vanity area has a peaceful atmosphere. With the additional section of five mirrors, visitors can use the space to refresh as they please, whether adjusting their makeup or applying face paint.
Maximizing behavioral psychology, the signage on the floor is designed to organize the half-time queue naturally. With “One Team, One World.” as the design concept, the entrance design expresses the scenery of diverse people gathering together to enjoy a game of soccer.
